How Many Pickleball Courts Do You Need?

The quick rule
One doubles court serves four active players. Divide your player count by four and round up for no planned byes. Eight players need two courts; 13 players need four courts for everyone to play at once.
When fewer courts work
Fewer courts are practical when the group accepts rotating byes or when games are short. Calculate court capacity per round, then compare the required number of player-games with the available slots.
Plan for real-world delays
Leave room for late arrivals, long games, and court changes. A schedule with 80–90% theoretical utilization often runs more smoothly than one with no buffer.
